SkillGravity had the privilege to be one of 50 startups to present at the #TechLA Summer Jam 2014 event organized by Be Great Partners – a platform dedicated to making the Los Angeles startup life more diverse, developed and competitive to Silicon Valley!
The SkillGravity team was first part of the Growth Hacking Luncheon meetup where members of all the startups presenting were able to mingle and find out more about each other’s products and platforms. It was a very exciting experience to explore the LA startup life and find out more about some of the cool projects the LA scene has to offer. SkillGravity was the only company exhibiting a B2B (business-to-business) solution and we were beyond overwhelmed by the busy demo table we had. Attendees were standing in line to talk to us and we got some great feedback by very influential people!
#TechLA Summer Jam had over 1,500 attendees and had three components to the event- speakers on stage, demo tables of startups and after party (you can guess which one we enjoyed the most J ). The topics spanned from LA women in tech to growth hacking techniques and how Hollywood has influenced the industry in the City of Angels. The speakers were experienced professionals from companies such as 500 Startups, RYOT and Washio.
There were definitely also some notable startups that were part of the exhibition as well. Our table “neighbors” Nabthat attracted many people with their toy vending machine filled with toys from Disney’s movie “Cars.” Why cars you might wonder? Well, Nabthat is a platform that makes the car buying experience quick, easy and anonymous- none of your information is shared until the transaction is complete!
This car experience was for the male population of the audience but we were also surrounded by the beautiful ladies with a cause from Rciprocity. This socially conscious startup is dedicated to empowering women and letting them “clutch their dreams.” The buyer can purchase a unique hand-made handbag and the proceeds are used to fund a woman-owned small business anywhere in the world.
Is your schedule too hectic to date someone or you simply can’t find the right match after years of trying? Three Day Rule is here to help entrepreneurs, young professionals and other busy people find real love. This fun hip online-curated dating startup strives to remove all the stress and stigma around (online) dating and encourage like-minded individuals to take a leap of faith and simply enjoy one’s company, real “chemistry” will do the rest!
The event wasn’t just fun and games though! The 50 startups were competing for some cool prizes and fame and although SkillGravity didn’t win, we still got some great exposure and fruitful contacts for the future in LA. The lucky winners were the ambitious boys from Penango – a product that ensures secure messaging and communication for enterprises and individuals.
Exploring LA was a total success for SkillGravity! We met an insane amount of cool people, exposed our idea to a different market and soaked up the sun while doing it!
